Boston Bar Review - Middlesex Lounge

There are very few times when I am pleasantly suprised after walking into a new bar. Ussually it is just hype that no one could ever live up to. This was not the case with the Middlesex Lounge at 315 Mass Ave in Cambridge.

So, after waiting in a line for about 5 minutes (get there before 9:30 cause the line does build up quickly), we walked into quite a scene. I can only imagine it felt like walking into one of those exclusive LA parties and you were the guy who won the tickets from the local radio station and was allowed to go. I mean the whole place kind of stopped and looked and I felt like they were wondering what the hell we were doing there. But I am not one to care about that shit and made a b-Line for the bar.

So the layout of this place is pretty cool. It is simply a good sized square room with one bar at the back, a dj table on one side and the rest is open space. The key to this open space is the rolling benches strewn through the room for people to sit where ever they please. Once the sauce began to settle in groups of people dancing soon spread into a full open dancefloor. DJ Kon was great, mixing in a bunch of mashups with some hiphop classics to keep the energy high.

Overall I would definately go back. The many waitresses kept the Redbull and Vodka flowing as fast as we were drinking them and the atmosphere, though intially quite frightening to a guy like me, was just what Saturday night called for.

enjoy.
