From what I can recall, Beck put on another killer show the other night at the Bank of America Pavilion. The earthquake weather which seems to occur every time he plays here didn’t drain any life out of the sellout crowd, as a matter of fact it seemed to provide a certain energy…although that might have been the ‘Tambourine Man’ on stage who was busting out every break dance move (except the Bronco) in the book throughout the show. As the show opened with “Black Tambourineâ€, the pavilion quickly turned into a bouncing sing along, without a silent voice in the crowd.
Beck kept the pace upbeat as he continued with a bunch of songs from his new album, before rolling back the clock to bust out some old favorites from Odelay including “devils haircutâ€, and ‘loser’ from 1994’s Mellow Gold. Personally I was fucking pumped when he broke out the harmonica and slowed it down with “Jackassâ€. The only problem with this was that it provided the largely unappreciative crowd with an opportunity to talk to each other about feck all…looking around, one couldn’t help but notice the throngs of 20 something women gabbing about laundry and dishes…or whatever they talk about. The show was far from however, as the band sat down at a dinner table and literally played the dishes to provide the accompanying music as Beck belted out “golden ageâ€. For the encore about 20 fans were brought onstage. One in particular had a pretty impressive break-off with the Tambourine Man as the band belted out the rock-disco jam ‘mixed bizness’.

I was right there with the vaz-man and hollaback and thoroughly enjoyed my first bite of Beck. If any of you have the opportunity to see him and his very talented bandmates, don’t even hesitate. The entertainment factor of the show is enough to satisfy any 2 hour time block. Enjoy.
