KEXP Offers Mobile Streaming Radio

I spent last night playing with my new toy, Verizon’s XV6700 pda phone, and came across something that I have been dreaming of for quite some time. I can officially and consistently stream internet radio over my cell phone thanks to Verizon’s new data network and the innovative folks at KEXP in Seattle.

KEXP is now offering a live stream for mobile phones and handheld devices. Listeners with web-enabled phones can point to kexp.org and automatically view a new mobile version of the KEXP website. To receive streaming audio, listeners must use a web-enabled phone or mobile device equipped with a media player and subscribe to a wireless carrier’s data service.

With the headphones/earbug that comes with the phone, I can walk around listening to KEXP as if it was my iPOD. It is pretty damn cool and is definately making the decision to get this heftty phone a bit easier to swallow.

I would love to hear about other sites specializing in high-speed wireless phone applications or services. Let me know so I can continue to put my new toy to the test.

Enjoy.
