Though not exactly a local Boston artist, but fellow New Englander, Ray Lamontagne is an alternative-sort of-folk singer, who has been described as a modern day raspy-voiced version of Van Morrison or Tim Buckley. His debut album “Trouble” was one of the best releases of 2004, and topped many critics best album of the year lists. He is a brilliant songwriter and has a unique yet amazing voice. Ray has racked up several nominations for the Boston Music Awards, taking place Sept. 28th at Avalon, including act of the year. You can check out a great acoustic performance from the studio of KEXP in Seattle by clicking here, or go to his website to listen to a couple of songs from ‘Trouble’. I recommend the song ‘Shelter’.
