Made Up Web 2.0 Words Make Me Gag

I just read the word digerati in an ABC News article on DEMO ‘06. Based on wikipedia, it is a “portmanteau, derived from digital and literati” that represents “the elite of the computer industry and online communities.” I hate fabriacated words that make me feel woozy and initiate a trip to Wikipedia.

A while back I read a book about a group of folks called the Illuminati that supposedly run the world from behind the curtains (think Free Masons but with golden submarines, extravagant sexual exploits, and shit like that). The more I think about it, the more it seems as though this ABC writer may have been flustered by the razzle dazzle of a large room full of geeks with their blueteeth and mistakenly took them for the new persistent beta of the Illuminati. Do you think Yahoo would buy that too? Someone tell O’ Reilly to hurry up with the Ruby On Rails book. I have a hot one over here. Bavarian Illuminati Web 2.0 style. We’ll call it Digerati.us.

The word MoSoSo (aka Mobile Social Software) also makes me green.

Ok. Lunch time is over.

Enjoy.

FWIW, I have that book of yours…it’s on my bookshelf. If you want it, you’ll have to beat me at 3 feats of intellect and strength.
