aka::Raff Perspective”:
The Catbirdseat was the first MP3 Blog that I ever came across. It was where my journey into playlist building began and I see it only fitting that my first prop session goes to him.
I like simplicity, consistency, efficiency, and freshness in my MP3Blogs. The Catbirdseat is just that. The masked man behind the site has his pulse on the indie music world and his short, informative, and daily (well almost daily) posts pool his resources into well executed shot of ‘Take a little of that! And Some of That! Don’t Forget This! Maybe a sprinkle of this would be nice.”. He frequently references other MP3blogs, label release announcements, general artist hype, personal experience and opinion, and easily found MP3’s (look for the links surrounded by ::: Those are them) which all blend together to produce a killer product.
On top of his daily posts, he also produces monthly mixes which can be streamed or downloaded at your leisure. Another nice feature is the way he keeps track of his current year’s favorite releases and lists them on the left side of the site. He has an impressive archive of lists going to back to 2001. It is a great place to start if you are in the mood for some new tunes and need some guidance..
Finally, Catbirdset recently rolled out Catbird Records. In the past year the label has released two limited edition cd’s, one by Michael Holt/Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and more recently one by Pet Politics. I own #130 out of 200 of the Pet Politics cd and am crossing my fingers that someday they hit it big and my special addition release will be worth a mint. Either way I look forward to seeing what else he releases because it is hard for me to turn down a 3$ album in this day and age.
In conclusion, this extremely busy guy over at Catbirdseat offers an informative indie music site that doesn’t try to let it’s personality or ego overtake the real reason it exists…to share music with the folks who are interested in finding it. Don’t take my word for it. Swing by and check for yourself.
Enjoy
