Ever wonder what a city is like in person? Wouldn’t it be great to have a place that you could go to and see for yourself without actually traveling there? Check out TurnHere.com. It allows you to visit neighborhoods or cities via your computer by watching a 3 minute video shot by their very own pool of amateur video stars. Check out this clip of Boston’s North End for a good example.

What you say? You’re interested in becoming one of their certified film sources? Well your fate is in your hands:

We are actively looking for qualified filmmakers to join our network and to make films for us. Our goal is to create a pool of extremely capable and creative filmmakers who will help us produce thousands of 3-minute neighborhood movies around the world.

I think they are talking to me directly. I may have to pull the old digital video camera out and start getting some local Somerville footage. There will be nothing better than standing on Prospect Hill Tower and dreaming about the day they raised the first flag of the united colonies or picturing the civil war prison camp that once stood there. I wonder if they stripped down the prisoners, made embarrassing sketches of them and posted them in the town square back then. Something tells me people didn’t take to the streets with their candles and banners and run to Davis Square to have a vigil if they did. But I could be wrong.

Enjoy.
