I guess in this world of Google producing good and services like they are China and Yahoo buying up all of the new breed socials networking sites that keep popping up around the web, it was only a matter of time till one of them hit home with me. If you haven’t heard, Yahoo (via Yahoo Music Blog) has announced the purchased of WebJay and our friend Lucas Gonze is one happy man. (That is just as long as he likes California over Hawaii.)

Webjay has been a staple in the akaRaff bag of tricks for almost as long as this site had been around. It’s ability to make the creation and sharing of music and video playlists easy has made it irreplacable. Whether it is my Radio Drops, Live Drops, or Video Drops, it always starts with an idea and a trip to WebJay and ends with playlist that essentially shares itself. Also if anyone every questions the social aspect of the site, just go and check out a few of these folks and ask them what Webjay means to them:

Soul On Ice
Hideout

Even with it’s intermitent (and sometimes very inconvenient) database failures, it’s rough around the edges exterior, and it’s “I am pretty sure I am Lucas Gonze’s sandbox” feel, WebJay is a perfect example of how you can have an idea that keeps you up all night one night and be able to deliver it and sell it to Yahoo by the next. It gives folks like me a reason to keep dreaming.

Congrats Lucas and thanks for all you time.

Check out this great post on Pete Cashmore’s Mashable site if you are interested in some great conversation on this topic.

Enjoy.
