Take no comfort in that case, you can most definitely get fired for surfing the web at work, for so many different reasons. That was NY state law, not MA. Just wait and see what happens on appeal. FYI: I write this as I surf the web at work. Disclaimer: nothing in this comment constitutes legal advice.

And housing prices! Don’t get me started. You know it’s bad when Americans move to Vancouver and say, “DAMN it’s expensive up here.” They used to say, “I’m pretty sure I can buy the whole country with the change in my pocket!”
