Wrap Up - Go To Web Services

Filed under: What I Learned Today

I was sitting here procrastinating some more and realized I have to get something out there. But what? I don’t have time to search for fun stuff today and my brain is all clogged from pollen or something. So, I decided to go brainless and give you a list of the web services I use on a daily basis. I fuck around with a lot of shit out there, but these are the ones that have naturally floated to the top of my daily web life.

Upcoming.org - This is where me and my pals keep track of shows and other things going on around the city.

Google Calendar - This is a great extension to gmail and has become my personal life calendar. It is nice cause you can share calendars with other folks to create a central space to track group events. For example, my little lady controls my social life through this lovely ajax based gem.

ezarchive.com - For $29/year/5GB of space (plus they send you a dvd of your content at the end of the year), this is a great deal. Over the past few months they have improved performance and Pocket|Trax continues to rely on it. I don’t hate it as much as i used to. I wish I could say that for myspace.

Bloglines - This is my RSS reader and it is exactly what I needed. Web based and intuitive.

Hype Machine - This audio blog aggregator is the best of breed. Great place to find new music and search for posts and mp3’s of your favorite artist.

Flickr - Before my camera was dropped in a glass of beer, Flickr was a daily visit. Once I get a new camera, this photo managment/sharing site will be back on my daily visit list.

TinyLinks - This simple site takes ridiculously long URL’s and converts them into very tiny ones.

ccComment - I used to use this alot, but have been forgetting to lately. It allows you to track the comments you make on blogs. It is handy for folks who comment alot and want to keep track of the threads.

Coral Distributed Network - This is not really something I used all the time, but if you need an open source content cache system then this is a great place to start. In this day and age of bandwidth costs, services like this are a necessity.

Newsvine - This relatively new site is a user (there are high end submittals as well) submitted news site that allows you to vote on the stories (like Digg), comment, and live chat with other readers.

del.icio.us - This is where I keep track of links that I want to use on akaRaff. There are others out there, but this one works for this guy.

Technorati - This blog search and tagging engine is one of the oldies but goodies. The performance has been a bit suspect as of late, but it helps drive traffic to my sites. I am not complaining.

Blog Explosion - This site offers a handy way for bloggers to market themselves. The more you surf other blogs through BE, the more your site is surfed. It is great for traffic if you have the time to sit and surf some really “not so good” blogs. I have to admit though that I have found some good sites as well.

Feedburner - My RSS feed comes from this baby. It polls my standard site RSS and creates a new and improved version for distribution to readership. It has some basic stats on what is being read and how many people have subscribed. There is also a premium service that will show you more detailed analytics.

Google Analytics - This is how I track you sucka’s. It is great for seeing where your readers are in the world and what sites are driving traffic to you.

Thomas’ Myspace Editor - I hate myspace but unfortunately it is becoming a requirement for getting exposure and finding music. So, this editor helps you make your clunky page look a little less clunky.

What do you guys use on a daily basis?

Enjoy.
